Correct Seat Depth for Leg Comfort

Seat depth affects leg circulation, knee pressure, and pelvic stability. Here's how to get it right for your body.

Seat depth is the distance from the back of the seat pan to the front edge. When it's too long, the front edge presses into the back of your knees, restricting blood flow and causing tingling. When too short, your thighs lack support, forcing your pelvis to tilt backward. The correct depth leaves 2–3 finger widths of space between the back of your knee and the seat edge. If your chair's seat pan is adjustable, slide it forward or back until you have this clearance. If not, a lumbar cushion can effectively reduce seat depth by pushing you slightly forward.
